In high school I told my friend Axel that if I ever did go skydiving it would definitely not be for the thrill but instead to experience the reality of air as matter. Later I decided I could probably experience 'air as matter' just as well by sticking my hand out a car window and promptly decided I would never do it.
Well, we went to New Zealand which happens to be the skydiving capital of the world and I happen to have an adventure seeking husband who I absolutely adore and who somehow convinced me (more like coerced) me into jumping.
I tried everything I could to convince myself it should be a peaceful experience. But alas I was absolutely petrified when the hour arrived; to the point that I cried walking to and while on the plane.
Brave Sam jumped first, meanwhile I started to chant "this is insane, why am I doing this?" as my legs were dangling out of the door of the plane. I was in total hysterics as somehow my body moved from inside the plane to outside in the empty air. I literally screamed louder than I ever have in my entire life (think horror movie), in fact my throat still hurts a week later. Finally after a few seconds of free-fall I realized I was still conscious and that floating above the earth was actually an extraordinary experience after all.
Everybody else in our group had the experience I would have hoped for- absolutely no fear, a serene free-fall, and that was that. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE.
Anyway, it was a memorable event to say the least but I am happy and proud to say I have not come away with any new complexes as I feared and in retrospect I enjoyed the experience.
We invite you to enjoy this lovely video on facebook and disregard the bizarre music as chosen by my eccentric husband.
We present for your further viewing pleasure a compilation of all the video footage we have taken this month, most of which includes our trip to New Zealand.
