My dad wrote me an email this week describing an outing he had with my 10 year old brother Caleb and his friend Cade. I thought it was too beautiful a description not to be shared. It brought a smile to my face anyway:
"Caleb, Cade and I had a nice outing. It was one of those moments that I hope I remember forever. We parked the car on Balboa Island, took the ferry boat to the peninsula, fished off the pier, had a burger at Ruby’s and made our way back by way of the arcades. Cade and Caleb walked along, kind of independently, with their fishing poles. Like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. Everyone wanted to ask them about the fishing. They were as 10 year old boy as 10 year old could be. A very aesthetic moment and I had no camera. They chatted incessantly about ten year old matters, who is the greatest basketball player ever, what kind of fish we would catch and such. Lots of questions and they supplied each other the answers. They only needed me for the ride and some confidence. It warmed an old man’s heart to see them having a little adventure and enjoying themselves so."

ReplyDeleteMorgan ~ your mom and I talk weekly about their cherished conversations. I want to start a blog called "Huck and Finn" aka...Caleb and Cade. Their conversations are truly precious and truly valued by mommies and daddies who feel a little pang in their hearts as they watch their last little ones getting a little older one day at a time!
