Good News

ALEX PASSED THE ESSAY PORTION OF THE FOREIGN SERVICE EXAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What in the world!  So super awesome!!!!!!!  


And I'm totally embarrassing him by posting this but I'm just so proud of my man.


So what does that mean?  So, to become a Foreign Service Officer you have to first take an intensive test (passed!), then you have to write 5 personal essays (passed!), and then you have to go to an oral interview (still to do!).  


Each year, roughly 20,000 applicants take the Foreign Service exam, roughly 17,000 fail.  One in ten pass the essay section, and one in five pass the oral interview.  Regardless of whether or not Alex passes the oral exam I am sooooo proud of him for getting this far- WOW!  So we found that out today and we’re both super stoked about it!!! 


As for other news- we are disappointed to inform our Nordic friends that we decided not to participate in the Oslo portion of Alex's master's program; the semester in Oslo was not eligible for fixed-rate government student loans and we were too scared of the evil private loans to make the commitment.  So we will be in Canberra for the entire 1 1/2 years.  While disappointing we are some what relieved as I will be able to work the entire time and we will be able to arrange housing more easily.
