Raynaud's, have you heard of it?

So I am a self-diagnosed Raynaud’s sufferer.  It’s a “vasospastic disorder causing discoloration of the fingers and toes.  Named for French physician Maurice Raynaud (1834–1881), the cause of the phenomenon is believed to be the result of vasospasms that decrease blood supply to the respective regions. Emotional stress and cold are classic triggers”.  Basically, that means my hands and feet loose blood in the cold and hurt; therefore, I hate the cold.

As a born and breed Californian, where the temperature never gets below 60 degrees Farenheight, I haven’t had to deal with my Raynaud’s much.  Of course there were always the cold mornings when my sandaled toes would go numb and turn yellow, or the rainy swim meets where my wet hands and feet would freeze up; my best friend Leah was good at identifying the moments I was suffering from my “Raynaud’s”.  The names kinda funny, don’t you think.

Anyway, my cold blood couldn’t handle cold days in California, let alone Utah where there are only four months out of the year of delicious sun.  This is why I am mourning this week’s initiation of cold.  It’s only gotten down to 60 degrees and I’ve already broken out my down coat; actually Sally, it’s yours, thanks for letting me use it.  I used to like the rain and snow, what I didn’t realize is that it was because they were only temporary entertainments.  This weeks cold spell makes me want to cry because I know it’s the start of something that will never end.  It’s the start of looking out to the outside of my living room window wishing I was out there if only it weren’t so cold.

I NEED FREE FUN/EXCERSIZE IDEAS FOR THE WINTER!!! and maybe some new hands and feet, anyone wanna lend me theirs?

Anyway, enough moaning- fortunately my friend Elyssa and I spent several days soaking up the last of the suns rays before the storm came, we got to see Alex's brother Bryan in Salt Lake, and then my family came to visit too!!!  So REALLY I’m a REALLY REALLY REALLY LUCKY GIRL!

I love you family so much!  Thanks thanks thanks for coming to visit.  You have no idea how much it meant to get to see you and have so much fun together.  I LOVE YOU!!!

  1. to solve this problem of cold, you wear LAYERS LAYERS LAYERS. drink LOTS of hot chocolate. cuddle. read a good book. go on long walks (as long as you're bundled up). build a little snowmen, or go to a lake and watch the geese fly overhead. there are always things to do my dear, i'll email you back on fb soon. stay warm ;)

  2. I just never leave the house during the winter. Is that an okay solution--complete isolation?

  4. Ahh! Looks like SO much fun! I'm so happy your fam came and you were able to spend some quality time w/ them. I know how great that is:) And I totally know how you feel w/ the cold weather blues! (I mean, I don't have your disease, and I don't live in Utah...but I did live in the snow most of my life so far!)I love excersize classes, even though I didn't think I would. Maybe you could sneak in a class a few times a week at school or sign up at the Provo Parks and Rec dept. I know they have some fun classes.
